Review Counsel
Patrice often acts as an advisor/advocate to support individuals going through Divorce Mediation (with a mediator other than her). In this role, Patrice provides her clients the benefit of independent counsel even while they pursue a non-adversarial resolution to their divorce. This work usually happens in meetings outside the mediation sessions.

Patrice suggests an initial meeting before mediation starts to assist in developing clarity about her client’s needs, interests, and goals related to the issues that will be discussed in mediation. This also gives the client a solid overview of legal parameters regarding those issues.

This service is closely tailored to the client’s needs, and some clients choose to meet with Patrice as needed throughout the mediation process for further clarification of legal issues, which is something neutral mediators cannot provide.

At a minimum, Patrice suggests her clients have her review any final written agreement (drafted by a mediator, for instance) before signing. This post-mediation review provides a final vetting of the issues with independent counsel and clear feedback concerning the rights and obligations created by the agreement.
